Emotional Hunger

Emotional Hunger

Many people eat when they experience different emotions. You might be anxious, sad, happy, or wish for some love or feeling.

So we use food that triggers that emotion. My mother always used to bake brownies because I love chocolates and I felt loved by my mom each time she baked some brownies. So I created this loop in my mind and body that each time that I eat chocolate brownies I will feel love because it triggers the emotion of my mom loving me through the brownies.

Well If I need a lot of love one day, that probably means I will need a lot of brownies to satisfy that need for love. I might indulge in one, two or even more brownies but the sensation of love or the trigger for happiness is short lived. So I will have to constantly over indulge.

A great solution is why am I desiring this food? What person or scenario does this food transport me too? What is the emotion or feeling that I want to receive and satisfy? Once I am able to figure this out it is a lot easier to satisfy the emotion.

Maybe I pick up the phone and call my mother and talk to her and by talking to her I feel the love I craved. Maybe I talk to a friend or coworker about a project that is making me anxious and by talking it out loud and their encouragement Im not so stressed about the project.

This way I will save myself from overindulging on unnecessary foods and will be able to actually recieve what my body was feeling and not trying to fill the void with foods.

This helps me create consciousness and see how to tackle it better.
