Hydration as a hunger

Hydration as a hunger

Many of us know that a key success to not overeating is to be properly hydrated. The body used to get most of its hydration through foods like fruits and vegetables just a couple hundred years ago. Now we have water on the tip of our fingers. But the mind still sends the signal of dehydration to the body as " we are dehydrated get something to eat so we can hydrate ourselves".

This is when we might get a snack like some nuts, crackers or chips that might not have any liquid in them. So after eating them the mind is still signaling to the body " Lets get some food, we need to hydrate ourselves" so you might go and snack on something else wondering why you are having so many cravings when what you might need is a little bit of water.

Staying hydrated gets easier when we implement drinking water on a schedule. Drinking a glass of water when I wake up, when I go to sleep, before taking a shower, and two bottles when Im working out or in the gym. Before you know it you will have kept yourself hydrated quite easily.

Most waters today are filtered and treated. In this treatment that makes them drinkable we also filter out a lot of the minerals that our body needs. You can get these minerals through different natural salts like sea salts, or Mediterranean salts that have many minerals than just sodium. We could also drink electrolyte supplements that help us stay hydrated that contain magnesium potassium and salts as well.

Remember the most important thing is to listen to your body and have fun experimenting what works for you to stay hydrated. The amount of glasses a day, weather you take supplements and the systems you create to stay hydrated.

So remember next time you have an urge for some snacks and you dont know what to get, reach out for a glass of water and hydrate first and see how you feel afterwards.
